What is craniosacral therapy ?

During our lives, we accumulate a history of sprains, knocks, bangs and emotional crises, which may remain unresolved for a long time. We all tend to react in the same sort of way; after an illness or injury we'll get back to our work and activities, as soon as we possibly can. By doing this, we can leave little nags, pains and injuries incompletely healed.

Now the body is truly awesome in it's ability to cope and adapt to challenges that we leave it. But ultimately over time, the stresses and strains spread as more part of the body are affected by this coping strategy.

CranioSacral Therapy (or CST) can help to soothe away these unresolved nags in a very gentle manner. It can give enormous benefits if you are suffering with headaches, migraines, back or neck pains, joint or muscular pains and also if you have a general feelings of being "out of sorts". Or maybe just an overall lack of energy, vitality or concentration. CranioSacral Therapy can help with all of these.

Bodies
There are particular structures in our body whose job it is to look after our delicate nervous tissues; if these become "stuck" or disorganised then this can have a subtle but, in some cases, quite profound effects on how we "feel" - both physically and emotionally. The intention of CranioSacral Therapy is to bring the whole of the body back into a state of balance by allowing our vital and delicate nerve tissues to perform in their most efficient manner.

This is achieved by gently persuading the protective tissues to release any tensions that they may be holding on to.

CranioSacral Therapy is an all over body treatment - it isn't just a "head treatment". During the treatment you are clothed and lie on a soft, comfortable couch. It is not a massage, neither are there any sudden or painful manipulations. CST is a gentle and non-invasive, the sensations consist mostly of warm, comforting, light pressures. You may feel a deep sense of relaxation and possibly become aware of heat, tingling, pulsations or other gentle sensations. Most people find a CST treatment deeply relaxing.
